KE Wan-Ching was born in Kaohsiung and is very concerned about gender, ethnics, culture and social change issues. Though an individual has limited power to change the world, she still want to use her film to voice for the disadvantaged people. Works including “The Lost Youth: Women and Industrial Work in Taiwan” depicting the female workers in factories in 1960s, and “Nostalgia: Looking at the Migrant Aboriginal Workers” about indigenous people in cities and their working condition.Synopsis
In the late 1960s, a large number of Taiwan’s indigenous people started working on the national forests lands: “Lin-ban lands” for money. It was an era that marks the initiation of civilization in which everything was obscure and uncertain. “The only thing we knew was that we had to go and work on the lands for money, not having a clue what really was going on.”The indigenous people worked long-hours to cultivate the Lin-ban lands, and only by singing, could their weary bodies and lonely souls be comforted. In the calls and responses with the rufous-capped babblers, their stories were told; despite the hardship, they kept singing their songs.
